The Royal Medical Benevolent Fund

The Royal Medical Benevolent Fund (RMBF) is the UK charity for doctors, medical students and their families. Our aim to support doctors through all the different stages of their career, from medical student onwards. Life can throw many challenges at us and we are here to support doctors and their families when they need it most. Across the years we have provided financial support to help doctors who are recovering from illness or accidents, bereavement, disability, or who have struggled for other reasons such as the impact of the Covid pandemic.

We are proud of our continued relationship with Wesleyan which demonstrates our shared values and commitment to providing support to doctors. Over the last 8 years we have had the pleasure of working with Wesleyan on a number of projects, made possible by your support.

Coronavirus appeal 2020

In response to the Covid-19 Pandemic, we launched an urgent appeal in April 2020 to ensure we could support frontline doctors who needed our support. Doctors, alongside other medical professionals have been on the frontline helping those affected with Covid but they haven’t been immune to the impact themselves. The RMBF has been able to support many of those affected to remain at work and to help ease any financial pressure they may be facing.
Some examples who we’ve been able to financially support over the last 12 months have included:

  • Locum doctors and medical students who had to shield due to underlying health conditions or were unable to work due to contracting Covid
  • Lone parent doctors struggling with high childcare costs due to the lockdown after losing childcare usually provided by a family member who is now shielding
  • Doctors who were working reduced hours in order care for children and ill family members

The Wesleyan Foundation kindly donated £5000 to our appeal which made a huge impact to the lives of the doctors we helped throughout the pandemic.

We would not be able to continue to support doctors and medical students across the UK without support from organisations like you.

RMBF 180th Anniversary Volunteer Conference 2017

Our volunteers are the backbone of the RMBF, working to spread the word of our work around the country, raise vital funds, and support our beneficiaries. Our Volunteer Conference was an important opportunity to celebrate their work, shape the future of the Volunteer network, and share ideas of how to best deliver and develop the support offered by the RMBF.
We are pleased to have had 85 volunteers attend and the conference was a huge success thanks to Wesleyan’s support as lead sponsor.

To give you an idea of the real difference your support makes, we wanted to share a recent beneficiary quote with you:

‘The RMBF has made such a huge difference to my life, ultimately enabling me to qualify as a doctor and now again to enter into work.

These are extraordinary times and the struggle as a person with a health condition has become harder than ever. The RMBF has again made becoming a doctor financially possible for me.’
We are very grateful to Wesleyan Foundation for your invaluable support over the years.

We would like to take this opportunity to congratulate you on your 180th anniversary!
